The Process Specification Language (PSL) Theory and Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
designed to facilitate correct and complete exchange of process information among manufacturing systems, such as scheduling, process modeling, process planning, production planning, simulation, project management, work flow, and business-process reengineering. We give an overview of the theories within the PSL ontology, discuss some of the design principles for the ontology, and finish with examples of process specifications that are based on the ontology.

The goal of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Process Specification Language (PSL) project (http://www.nist.gov/psl/) [1] is to create a process specification language that can be common to all manufacturing applications, generic enough to be decoupled from any given application, and robust enough to be able to represent the necessary process information for any given ap...
متن کاملProcess Representation Using Architectural Forms: Accentuating the Positive
The PSL (Process Specification Language) project is creating a standard language for process specification to serve as an interlingua to integrate multiple process−related applications throughout the manufacturing life cycle. This interchange language is unique due to the formal semantic definitions (the ontology) that underlie the language. The PSL ontology is organized modularly with a small ...
متن کاملUsing Process Specification Language for Project Information Exchange
There are many project scheduling and management programs employed in the construction industry. Standards-based translation is one way to achieve interoperability. This study evaluates the applicability of the Process Specification Language (PSL) for exchanging project information among different applications. PSL has been initiated by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and ...
متن کاملOntology Engineering for Distributed Collaboration in Manufacturing
The problems of inter-operability are acute for manufacturing applications, as applications using process specifications do not necessarily share syntax and definitions of concepts. The Process Specification Language developed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology proposes a formal ontology and translation mechanisms representing manufacturing concepts. When an application becom...
متن کاملInconsistencies in the Process Specification Language (PSL)
The Process Specification Language (PSL) [6] is a first-order logical theory designed to describe manufacturing or business processes and formalize reasoning about them. It has been developed by several authors over a period of years, yet it is inconsistent with the simplest axioms that preclude non-trivial models. We demonstrate several inconsistencies using an automated theorem prover and att...
